A Floral Treasure in the Heart of the Cederberg
Ramskop Nature Reserve is one of Clanwilliam’s natural gems, offering spectacular wild flower displays each year during the flower season, which typically peaks in August and September.
With the Cederberg Mountains as a backdrop, and surrounded by rooibos tea fields and orange groves, this reserve is a favourite for both locals and visitors looking to experience the vibrant beauty of South Africa’s floral heritage—without having to travel all the way to Namaqualand or Nieuwoudtville.
Wild Flower Wonderland
Home to over 350 species of wild flowers, Ramskop is one of the best spots in the region to witness a “carpet” of blooms. The flowers are usually at their best between 11am and 3pm, when the sun is high and the petals are fully open.
During Clanwilliam’s annual Wild Flower Show—held for ten days at the end of August and the first week of September—the reserve becomes an important extension of the festivities.
What You’ll See
Although the reserve covers just 66 hectares, more than a tenth is planted with species from across Namaqualand, including flowers from the Knersvlakte, Richtersveld, and Boesmanland regions. There’s even a marshland area with Nieuwoudtville bulbs.
Visitors can enjoy:

Well-marked walking paths with scenic viewpoints over the mountains and Clanwilliam Dam
-
A diverse range of flowers in one location—perfect for those short on time
