Ramskop Nature Garden: A Floral Treasure

If you’re looking for a reason to get outside this spring — Ramskop Nature Garden is it! The veld is bursting with colour right now, and I was lucky enough to spend an unforgettable afternoon there. Think splashes of yellow, red, white, and even pops of delicate purple if you look closely at the little viooltjies.

I began my walk on a gentle hill that rises like an island in the garden, where the tall quiver trees stand like sentinels, framed by that soft blue afternoon light. In the foreground, the aloes were showing off too, adding fiery bursts of colour. Honestly, it was picture‑perfect.

Did you know there are over 350 species of wildflowers in Ramskop Nature Garden? I had my trusty ClanFlora app on my phone, which made spotting and identifying them even more fun. Some of my favourites included the red pypies (#286 IRIDACEAE Cobra Lily, Piempiempie) the bright yellow Clanwilliam Daisy (#74 ASTERACEAE, Harpuisbos, Clanwilliam harpuis), and even the quirky green spinnekop flower (#289 IRIDACEAE, Spider lily, Inkpotjie). Every few steps, something new caught my eye!

As I climbed higher, a little stream trickled over smooth river stones — the kind of sound that makes you want to just stop and breathe it all in. And don’t forget to turn around a few times: the view over the Cederberg Mountains and Clanwilliam Dam is simply breath-taking.

And it’s not just about the flowers. Birds were everywhere, chirping, flitting between branches, and even splashing in water pools. It added a whole new layer of life to the experience.

I left feeling grateful that we have such a gem right here in our town. Ramskop Nature Garden isn’t just a garden — it’s a little sanctuary where you can slow down, reconnect with nature, and share the beauty with visitors.

Don’t Miss: From 8 August, the Daisy Tea Garden will be open daily from 10:00 – 15:00. Perfect for a light bite or a cup of something warm after your walk.

Local-Friday exclusively for Clanwilliam residents: On Friday, 8 August,  local visitors can enjoy the garden at a discounted rate of just R20 per adult and R5 per child under 12. A perfect excuse to come soak up the spring blooms!
